Getting Money for you film - Part 1

Probably one of the hardest aspects about getting your dream film made is acquiring the budget, especially in today's world. Lets face it, people are not as willing to fund movies as they were a few years ago. It's a risky investment that leaves many people with a deep hole in their pocket. So how does one go about getting their movie funded?

I'm going to do a series of blog entries that explains the 4 ways you are able to receive money for your film. Surprisingly you can only do it these 4 ways otherwise there will be legal issues and you will loose way more than you gained to make the film. I'm going to begin with a short lesson and one that shocked me becuase I've seen so many people try to fund this way.

Lesson 1

You cannot receive donations from random people in any fashion. This means the web. If you set up a site where people can send you money through paypal or snailmail you are in violation of a code that can get you sued.

The scary thing is that I cannot find any info on the topic in google. I talked with a lawyer who helps make sure films fund the legal way and thats where I recieved this information.

If anyone has more information reguarding this topic please post a comment with the link.
