What do you want to build/figure out?

If there is a piece of film equipment you want to build or a technique you want to learn leave a comment on my page and I will research it for you. I'll post everything that I find regarding the topic on a blog post. I can also point you in the direction of people who you can contact.

Homemade Dolly?

Recently I built a Dolly from scratch. I took a few designs and molded them together to make a simple but highly effective dolly. Everyone that I worked with on set was amazed by smoothness of the shots. The film I used it for is "1-800-Suicide" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoyqIDLfqfE)

So do you want to make a dolly??? Here are a few youtube videos which specifically take you through the process. I stress that I wouldn't take them word for word if you know a little bit about construction. There are always different ways to approach the same design. For example my piece is a square base, 4 sets of wheels, metal tubes for the rails (opposed to plastic pvc), and a place to lock each leg of the tripod.

This is the video I watched to get the basic idea.

Here are some other Dolly videos to get you thinking about building.

Also another possible idea for a dolly is a cable dolly. Could be good. I'm going to look into building one but I will make sure to use real cable instead of rope and a metal balanced bracket instead of wood.
